Every year increased legislation is being proposed that affects our industry. The AGA has a Legislative Representative in Montgomery who will represent your interest at the state and local levels to insure that you are informed and have a strong voice. We believe legislative support is our number one priority. Members receive weekly legislative reports during the Alabama Legislative Session to keep you informed and up to date.

Current Key Issues Include:

  • Minimum Wage
  • Country of Origin Labeling
  • Interchange Fees
  • Bottle Bills
  • Food Safety Issues
  • WIC/Food Stamp Updates
  • Sunday Alcohol Sales
  • Alcohol Content Bills
  • Unfair Worker Compensation Bills

ANNUAL CONVENTION

Another key component of our Association is our Annual Convention. Each year at our annual convention, you will have the benefit of professional speakers and seminars to help improve your knowledge and help you operate your business more efficiently. You will have the opportunity for extensive networking, discussion and expanding ideas with others in the food industry. Also great fellowship, activities and top name entertainment. The 2010 Annual Convention is July 26-July 28 at the Sandestin Beach and Golf Resort.

ALABAMA GROCERS EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Since the Education Foundation was founded in 1992, we have awarded scholarships totaling over half a million dollars to member employees and member children. All member companies, their employees and children of employees of the Association are eligible to apply for Scholarships. Each year we host 3 golf tournaments to fund this program as well as other fundraisers. Companies also have the option of piggybacking scholarships for members of their own company.

These include the Alabama ABC Board, Alabama Department of Public Health/WIC, Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, and the Alabama Department of Revenue, just to name a few.
